Shakpak-Ata is not a viewpoint, it is a working place of pilgrimage, and the 12-hour listing spells out the rule: men must wear long trousers; women must wear long trousers or a long skirt and cover their heads with a scarf. The same expectation applies at Beket-Ata and Shopan-Ata, where guesthouses feed pilgrims all day and visitors are welcome to sit down and share the tea.
Carry the scarf and the trousers in the car even in August. Photography is restricted inside some of the underground chambers — ask before the camera comes out.
